The Straz Center is Tampa Bay’s premier venue, producer, educator and economic catalyst for the performing arts. The Straz Center began as a dream in the early 1980s to create one of the finest performing arts centers in the nation. It now involves a growing variety of other buildings, venues and programs throughout the community. More than a performing arts venue with five performance spaces and three restaurants, the Straz is a dynamic presenter, producer, educator and community partner. It is also generates more than $110 million for the local economy each year.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual for our Development Department to assist with coordinating and hosting special events throughout the year to execute the Center’s fundraising and stewardship initiatives.
This internship will provide valuable, hands-on experience in non-profit management, fundraising, and event planning.
A cornerstone of Tampa Bay’s local and national profile, the Straz attracts more than 700,000 people of all ages, countries and cultures annually, including tourists who stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants, shop in our stores and visit other local venues and businesses as part of their Straz experience.
The Straz Center also provides training for new generations of artists, as well as jobs for artists and other professionals who have a passion for sharing the arts and a commitment to our mission of inspiring and nurturing the creative spirit within each of us – both as individuals and as a community recognized internationally as a destination for arts and culture.
The Development Events Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Events. The intern will conduct sponsor and attendee research, assist volunteer committees to help with planning and executing the Center’s major fundraising and stewardship events, and use desktop publishing to create promotional materials.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Proficiency with Microsoft Publisher or similar desktop publishing software
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Good time management and organizational skills
- The ability to work well both independently and in teams
- Professional written and oral communication skills
- Work 15-20 hours per week, September through April
